Ravello & Atrani (Amalfi Coast pt.2)
A 1-day guide to visit Ravello & Atrani from Amalfi town.
Note: This guide includes walking (downhill) for a significant distance to work off some pizza, pasta, and aperol spritzes, but can be updated to travel by bus for those that need assistance.
Why Ravello & Atrani?
Visit Ravello for unique, mountaintop views of the Amalfi coast. Stunning villas and gardens to explore and a nice hike back down to the coast make for a fun day in the Amalfi coast.
Get lost in the tunneled streets of Atrani then relax on the beach. Mystery is waiting around each corner for fans of “The Talented Mr Ripley” or more recently “Ripley” on Netflix which was filmed in Atrani.
When to visit
April-June, September-October
Ravello is worth a day trip to see the coast from another perspective while staying in the Amalfi Coast. See my Amalfi town guide for more information about when to visit!
How to get there and back
Ravello makes a fun day trip from Amalfi. We took a chartered bus up from Amalfi port to Ravello then walked back to Amalfi with a pit stop in Atrani.
Amalfi > Ravello (shuttle)
Take Amico shuttle from the Amalfi port to Ravello town square for €10 one-way or €15 round trip. Pickup is every 30 min. You can book ahead or risk it and pay on board if there is room!
Ravello > Atrani (45 minute walk)
This 45 min walk is downhill. It starts and ends with stairs, with limited walking on a busy road, so it requires some mobility and is not for those who cannot take many steps or walk for extended periods. But it is a nice walk that has beautiful views along the way, especially on approach to Atrani. If you can bring/wear a bathing suit, the trail ends at the beach in Atrani so take a swim or stop for a cool drink as a reward for some vacation exercise!
Atrani > Amalfi (15 minute walk)
To finally arrive back at Amalfi is a short walk through one short and one long tunnel. Note that the short tunnel is approx 150 ft with no walkway, so beware of traffic. The long tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel that ends back in Amalfi.
Note: There are other trails from Ravello. The very popular (but longer) Trail of Lemons will take you to Maiori/Minori, but then you’ll need to find a ride back to Amalfi town.
